During February and March 2022, I collaborated primarily with Sasha Spiegel (also an Allen HS IB senior) in making the International Wildlife Day video. I also worked with the two other Big Brainers founders — Aditya Singhvi and Sanika Kothari. They are located in Pennsylvania and are high school juniors. The focus of this project was to create videos over interesting topics, and we finally chose to do it on international days designated by the United Nations. Our target audience would be social media users, and especially teenagers because the video we made would ideally be published on platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. The goal was to kickoff what we call Project Quantum at Big Brainers (www.bigbrainers.org), which is a team initiative to produce educational videos over interesting and frequently-overlooked topics.
Sasha and I collaborated closely to produce the Wildlife Day video, so we asked each other some questions here and there and gave each other feedback when needed in order to finalize the video. Aditya and Sanika primarily served as a sounding board for the many ideas we had for the CAS project and to ensure our plan would align with Big Brainers’ core mission. They also collaborated on producing the first video in a video series aimed at informing our target audiences about time management techniques.
The most challenging part of the project was actually finalizing an idea because we had quite a few and getting started on it. At one point of time and after a lot of contemplation, Sasha and I finally took the call to focus on International Wildlife Day because it was coming up. That helped us get moving with all the steps in our timeline. The original goal of the project involved creating more videos. While we were not able to accomplish that, we did create one high-quality video and we were able to kick off Project Quantum, through which Big Brainers volunteers will continue to make more videos.
